The Mang family is deeply anchored in the Weissenkirchener history of wine-making. The family’s name was first mentioned in an official document in 1287, and the current winery has been in the family’s possession since 1919. They own ten hectares, of which more than a third include steep terraces. That raises the intensity of the labour (all vines from these vineyards are manually maintained and picked), but also significantly heightens the quality of the wines. Veltliner sets the tone, but the family also does not shy away from exploring more idiosyncratic avenues. One of their brilliant red blends, for example, is based on Merlot and Cabernet Franc.   The work in the vineyard constitutes the family’s main activity, yet they also produce Edelbrände (fruit spirits), the origins of which reach back into Theresian times. They manage to distil world-class Schnaps from apricots, nuts and pears, which neatly complement the classic ’Hauerjausen’ (farmer snacks) and the range of wines that are offered in the family’s restaurant facilities. Their Buschenschank belongs to the biggest and most beautiful ones in the Wachau and seats up to 320 people (inside and outside). It is an ideal venue for marriages and other celebrations!
