Company information

Merian – the most important German-language travel magazine – described the Heurigen of the Brustbauer family as one of the most beautiful in the Wachau. It therefore merits a closer look: rosebushes and apricot trees frame a stunningly beautiful view of the Danube, while the Loibenberg towers in the background. Up there on the Loibenberg Karl Brustbauer owns a few parcels of land, too, but his other terraces are equally impressive. His Veltliner, Riesling, Muscatel and his Pinot Blanc grow, among other places, on the Kellerberg, in the Hollerin and in the Schütt. The latter is small but delicate, and produces wines that are only very rarely surpassed with regard to their subtleness and overall potential.   The family’s 6 hectares are cultivated predominantly manually. The harvest is usually late, although this depends on the exact location of the terraces. Karl knows his terraces inside out, and he continuously produces high qualities, even in the more difficult years. His aspiration is always to create mineral and compact wines.  Those who wish to explore the terraces and specificities of the Wachau in more detail are very welcome to rent one of the two holiday homes the family owns – one is in Joching and the other in Oberloiben.
