Anton Haiderer’s winery occupies a special place among the vineyards in the Wachau. First, the farm, which has been in the possession of the family for many generations, is situated in the Dunkelsteiner woods towering high above the Danube. Secondly, although winemaking is an essential aspect, it is not the only feature of the family’s farming activities. Animal husbandry and agriculture are other important activities, and their outcomes are turned into the many self-made delicacies that are offered four times a year in the family’s Heurigen.

Because the family is convinced that the terraces up in the Dunkelsteiner woods are absolutely brilliant, they have expanded their vineyards to eight hectares. Some of the terraces have not been cultivated for decades, but their roots reach deep into the past. The rocky soil of the Pülnhof terrace, for example, offers the perfect terrain for lively Veltliner and Riesling. The terraces on the Süssenberg and Donauleiten also produce excellent wines and cover the entire spectrum ranging from Steinfeder to single vineyard Smaragd, in which Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc are also represented. The wines are authentic and delectable and function perfectly as accompaniments to a delicious culinary programme.
