Company information

In the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage region Wachau, in Weißenkirchen in the Wachau valley, the Kirchenwirt welcomes guests to a hotel and restaurant where tradition meets modern comfort in a warm and inviting atmosphere. This family-run establishment consists of four historic buildings dating back to the Renaissance (16th century): the main house, the Dependance Arkadenhof, the Malerhaus Geller, and the Wellnesshaus. Each building and every room has its own unique charm, individually designed to suit different tastes while carefully respecting the requirements of historic preservation.

At the Arkadenhof, the Kirchenwirt also offers exceptional facilities for conferences and seminars. Unlike classic seminar hotels, it provides companies with a truly distinctive setting. Guests can hold meetings beneath a historic wine press in the seminar room “Weinpresse” or in the atmospheric “Weinkeller” seminar room. Both spaces have been fully adapted to meet modern technical requirements while preserving their historic character.

“Our goal is to offer our guests rooms in which they truly feel at home – and for that, we leave no stone unturned,” say the owners, Manuela and Christian Wildeis, MBA. The perfect start to the day is the Wachau breakfast buffet, featuring the famous Wachau “Laberl” bread rolls and homemade apricot jam, served on the newly built terrace.

After a walk, hike, cycling tour along the World Heritage Trail, or a relaxing wellness day, guests can enjoy a cozy meal either on the restaurant terrace directly by the cycle path or in the vaulted dining rooms with their charming romantic niches – depending on the weather. The cuisine focuses on refined traditional (Lower) Austrian classics at toque level, including fried chicken (Backhendl), veal ragout (Kalbsrahmbeuscherl), venison stew, pike-perch fillet, spinach dumplings, and Kaiserschmarren. Seasonal specialties such as asparagus, lamb, and goose are also featured. From mid-June onwards, many guests look forward to the popular apricot dumplings (Marillenknödel). The extensive wine list places a strong emphasis on wines from the Wachau region – with white wines exclusively from the Wachau – ensuring a perfect pairing for every dish.

The 4-star Hotel Kirchenwirt Wachau has been awarded 11 points and one toque by Gault Millau and 85 points and two gold forks by Falstaff. It is also a long-standing member of the Lower Austrian “Wirtshauskultur” initiative, representing authentic regional hospitality at the highest level.
