Company information

Domaine Roland Chan is a boutique winery founded in 2017 in the Wachau, cultivating some of the region’s most prestigious high-altitude terraced vineyard sites (Achleiten, Klaus, Bach, and Höll). The focus is on steep, hand-tended dry-stone terraces within the UNESCO World Heritage landscape, with the aim of preserving historic vineyards, old vines, and the authentic expression of origin over the long term. The winery was founded by Roland Müksch and his family and combines Austrian wine tradition with international experience. Its philosophy is not geared toward immediate impact, but toward producing age-worthy, structured wines designed for the table, with a clear sense of origin. Viticulture is deliberately non-industrial: manual labor, low yields, selective harvesting, the promotion of biodiversity, and minimal intervention are central principles. Herbicides are not used; plant protection is targeted and reduced, with the goal of maintaining a stable ecological balance. At the core of the portfolio are Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, and Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder). The wines ferment spontaneously or under gentle guidance, mature for extended periods on the fine lees in stainless steel and large neutral oak, are bottled unfiltered, and released only after extended aging. Stylistically, the emphasis is on minerality, structure, aging potential, and transparency of terroir. Markus Skopek is responsible for vineyard management. Vinification is carried out in collaboration with Christoph Donabaum. Internationally, the wines enjoy high recognition, including top ratings from James Suckling, Vinous, and Falstaff, as well as numerous awards at international competitions such as the IWSC London.
