Description

An extremely steep and barren vineyard, very difficult to cultivate due to the arid and shallow soils. Several parcels are not being cultivated at this time.

Soil Profile Kalkofen

In the steep terrace locations of Kalkofen in the Spitzer Graben, acidic Spitz granodiorite gneiss is united with base-rich amphibolite. The topsoil of the profile consists of slightly loamified slope debris from both rock types, light-coloured granodiorite gneiss and dark amphibolite. The material lies on native granodiorite gneiss. A crack filled with clayey soil material can be seen in the middle. The vine roots penetrate deep into the rock through these cracks.
