Moving from Spitz to Rossatz in order to cultivate wine is rather uncommon. In fact, it is an unusual step which nevertheless resulted in success. Karl and Maria Supperer moved into their 800-year-old house about 30 years ago, and in the meantime have established themselves as excellent winemakers. They expanded their estate very slowly, gradually including interesting new parcels of land here and there. Excellent terrain, which allows Wolfgang and his wife Bernadette to keep improving further the quality of his fine wines. He is particularly concerned with implementing organic principles in the best terraces of the village: the Steiger presents the basis for spicy Veltliner and aromatic Traminer; the Kreuzberg hosts the materials for fruit-precise Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc; and an astonishing Cabernet Sauvignon grows in the steep and rocky Mugler terrace. All of these wines share an elegant and cool texture, which can perfectly be combined with treats from the Heurigen. The dishes on offer range from black pudding to spreads, from roasts to salted and smoked meats, and all of them are homemade. The Heurigen opens its doors four times a year, and visitors can relax either in the courtyard or in the ancient stone vaults. Those who wish to stay longer are warmly invited to rent the family’s holiday apartment.
