The Mauritiushof—a 13th century farmstead—houses one of the most forward-thinking wine estates in the Wachau. Franz-Josef Gritsch is young, ambitious and successful. With his Singerriedel, 1000-Eimerberg, and Loibenberg he cultivates parcels in the best sites in the Wachau. Varietal typicity, vineyard character and a fruit-forward flavour-profile are the three most eminent features of Gritsch's wine. Numberous accolades underscore his high standard of quality.
With his KALMUCK series of wines Franz-Josef Gritsch not only created a lively new brand for the Wachau, but also animated the world of fashion by his associated promotion of the eponymous fabric: the traditional black, brown and white chequered jacket worn by the Wachau vintner. Authentic Kalmuck accessories—jackets, polo shirts, scarves, neckties and backpacks—can also be obtained from the Gritsch estate.
The kalmuck cellar in the centre of Spitz has given us family Gritsch modern wine cellar as the perfect complement to the Mauritiushof with its centuries of tradition and just a stone's throw away! You don't need to look twice to see that this building is unique, and inside it has everything we expect from a modern, innovative wine cellar.
