Do you like walking? Do you enjoy cycling or cruising through hilly landscapes on a motorbike? And do you know the difference between a birdie and a bogey? If you have answered any of these questions with ‘yes’, and also cherish good food, comfortable accommodation and authentic Wachau wines besides, then Peter Stockinger’s vineyard is just right for you. In the Stockingerhof’s classic family winery – just a stone’s throw away from the famous terraces and the historic centre of Dürnstein – most but not all things revolve around wine. Veltliner, Riesling and Muscatel grow on the family’s four hectares, and the winery itself is hidden among the vines on the Supperin terrace. The family produces fruity wines that pay tribute to the characteristics of the respective grape variety while also celebrating the uniqueness of each terrace. Peter’s most important wine is ‘Birdie One’ – a wine that expresses his passion for golf and that is popular not just with the many golfers who love staying at the winery. It is possible to sample a range of wines, together with cold and warm dishes, in the beautiful Heurigen – an idyllic garden and cosy restaurant room that tempt visitors to stay.
