The next Wachau Wine Spring will take place on May 7th and 8th 2011. The Steinfeder Night will be celebrated on May 7th at Schloss Spitz.



Wachauer Weinfrühling - the Wachau Wine Spring 2008 | 3.5.2008

The Wachau Wine Spring took place on the 3rd and 4th of May, with more than 100 Vinea Wachau members presenting their wines. Even clouds and rain could not stop wine lovers from coming in droves to the Wachau and visiting the wineries.

Besides tasting, wine fans also had the opportunity to talk with the winemakers personally and to buy the wines directly at the wineries. Participants included each of the world-renowned wineries - Alzinger, Hirtzberger, Knoll, F.X. Pichler and Prager - plus an array of interesting newcomers and yet-to-be-discovered producers, as well as long-known, traditional wineries.

The Steinfeder Night, which was held once again in the Schloss Spitz castle, was attended by the highest number of visitors ever – and this, despite the rain! More than 700 guests spent a cosy evening in an impressive ambience with Steinfeder and Federspiel wines, regional food and live music.

On the 6th and 7th of May, Vinea Wachau member wineries participated in the Wachau Wine Spring, inviting wine lovers into their wineries to taste the current vintage of wines as well as specialities from recent years. The wine fans also took the opportunity to taste and chat with the winemakers themselves.  

The participants included each of the world-renowned wineries - Alzinger, Hirtzberger, Knoll, F.X. Pichler and Prager - plus an array of interesting newcomers and yet-to-be-discovered producers, as well as long-known, traditional wineries.  

On the evening of 6th May, the second Steinfeder Night was celebrated: numerous wine friends didn´t miss the opportunity to end the day in the cosy, impressive ambience of the Teisenhoferhof in Weissenkirchen. The evening was complete with live music by "julian´ flat 7", many Steinfeder and Federspiel wines, and specialities from the restaurant LATE.

On 30th April and 1st May, many wine lovers took the opportunity to taste the 2004 vintage wines at 90 Vinea Wachau member wineries participating in the Wachau Wine Spring. With fabulous weather as a backdrop, the wine fans also enjoyed speaking personally with the winemakers themselves. The participants included each of the world-renowned wineries - Alzinger, Hirtzberger, Knoll, F.X. Pichler and Prager - plus an array of interesting newcomers and yet-to-be-discovered producers, as well as long-known, traditional wineries.  



Also on 30th April, the Smaragd tasting in the Schloss Spitz castle proved to be a special experience for wine connoisseurs. Within five hours, 110 Smaragd wines – all produced by Wachau winemakers, of course - were tasted and rated under the excellent guidance of IWB Fohringer.  

On the evening of 30th April, the first Steinfeder Night was celebrated. In Schloss Spitz, more than 500 friends of wine finished their day together with the winemakers amidst an impressive ambience. Along with the wine were other tasty specialities from the Wachau region, plus live music provided by "julian´ flat 7 – vocal and pianist”.  

A special culminating point of the Wachau Wine Spring was the awarding of the Steinfeder Prize to a journalist of merit. This award - already given to Janicis Robinson, Dr. Helmut Romé, Professor Michael Reinartz and numerous other wine personalities - was granted to RTL chief editor Hans Mahr on Friday, 29th April in the Loibnerhof restaurant in Unterloiben. Amongst those congratulating Hans Mahr were Dr.Erwin Pröll, the governor of Lower Austria, and other government officials including Dr.Werner Nikisch and Dr.Günther Stummvoll, plus other prominent guests, such as Rudi Klausnitzer, and Elmar Oberhauser.
