To the Heurigen by boat? No problem – provided one has a boat. The Siedler family offers a pier and a landing stage. And much else besides, above all a Heurigen which most definitely counts among the very best in the Wachau, and which also offers its fine fare in the winter. Their cuisine is traditional, but with an innovative twist. Georg and Josef Siedler are living proof that there can be much more positive results than just the proverbial conflict between generations when father and son collaborate, such as an impressive amount of creative energy. The two complement each other perfectly in the kitchen, and also manage to reach compromises regarding the cultivation of their vines. Their terraces include some of the best in Mauternbach, such as the Stendel, the Süssenberg, the Donauleiten and the Raubern. Their winemaking philosophy is ecologic and sustainable, and is inspired by organic farming principles. The results proves them right: perfectly healthy grapes, above all Veltliner, are turned into wines spanning all categories, ranging from Steinfeder to Smaragd. Their range is further complemented by Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Red Veltliner (rare) and Zweigelt. Their key priority is the production of fresh, elegant and wholesome wines.
